Commonly asked questions about reproductive anatomy and pregnancy

Companion materials for the HCET human growth and development videos: medically accurate, age-appropriate information and example answers to questions youth often ask about pregnancy and related topics. Reviewed by an interdisciplinary team of medical providers, social workers and youth workers.

Tips for answering youth questions

It's impossible to anticipate every question on such a broad topic. Keep these in mind.

  • Lead with accurate information

Answer with medically accurate information, and encourage young people to explore their values around it with parents, caregivers and trusted adults.

  • Don't know the answer? Own it

Young people respect adults who admit they don't know. Responding honestly, researching and circling back shows you are reliable and trustworthy.

  • Use vetted resources

The internet is useful, but the best sources are hard to find quickly. Start with the topic sheets below, or email communications@hcet.org.
